To help minimize our environmental impact, Autograph's NFTs are minted on the Polygon and Ethereum blockchains. These operate with a Proof of Stake (PoS) consensus algorithm, which consumes significantly less energy than the Proof of Work (PoW) algorithm used by some other blockchains. With a PoW approach, miners compete to solve complex mathematical equations in order to validate transactions and earn cryptocurrency as a reward. This process requires significant computational power and energy consumption, as miners need to run specialized hardware and constantly compete to solve these equations. In contrast, PoS allows for block validators to be chosen based on the amount of the blockchain's cryptocurrency held rather than computational power, resulting in much less energy required to validate transactions. By using the Polygon and Ethereum blockchains to mint our NFTs, Autograph is able to empower collectors with robust ownership and security without compromising on environmental standards.
